1, Assuming you purchased a McAfee subscription and a McAfee application was always installed while you were running Vista, was your subscription still current when you 'when you 'upgraded to Win8?' Mcafee was on vista and when I went to win 8 I did not re-install it
2. Was Win7 ever installed and if so, was it an upgrade or did you format the HDD & do a clean install of Win7? ..what, if any, third-party anti-virus application was installed when you were running Win7? Windows 7 was never on this laptop, purchased it with vista on it

4. Were you running Win8 or Win8.1 when you upgraded to Win10? I am pretty sure 8.1 when I went to win 10
5. When (approx. date) did you upgrade to Win10? the first month it came out
6. Did you choose to upgrade to Win10 manually or was the upgrade offered AND INSTALLED via Windows Update? upgrade was offered and installed via windows update

7, Were the speakers working before you upgraded from Win8 to Win10? yes
8. Is KB4048954, KB4049011, and/or KB4048951 offered to your computer when you run a manual check for updates and if so, does one or more of the updates successfully install? KB4048954 recently failed and I will attempt a retry, KB4049011 is on iKB4048951 is also on it

Keep in mind this is a laptop and simply exchanging a sound card isn't an option either

Nov 26, 2017  I have attempted everything including contacting Dell and installing their recommended driver. I have a feeling it is the audio chip driver on the laptop. The company Sigmatel is no longer in business and no drivers are being updated to Windows 10.
